What does the Bible say about selecting a leader?
In Exodus when Moses needed additional help, God told him, “But select capable men from all the people—men who fear God, trustworthy men who hate dishonest gain—and appoint them as officials over thousands, hundreds, fifties and tens” (Exodus 18:21).
A leader serves.
In Matthew 20:25-28, Jesus tells His disciples that leaders should not exercise authority over people. Instead, whoever wants to become great must lower himself to be a servant. Leaders realize that serving others is the only way to lead with a pure heart, free of pride and arrogance.

“Thou mayest choose for thyself, for it is given unto thee” (Moses 3:17). God has told us through His prophets that we are free to choose between good and evil. We may choose liberty and eternal life by following Jesus Christ. We are also free to choose captivity and death by following Satan.

Jesus chose twelve Apostles to lead His Church. He prayed all night so that He could choose the right men. The next morning He chose and ordained twelve men, giving them the priesthood and the authority to be Apostles. The Apostles traveled to many cities.
God was most pleased with David because he had a heart for God. Everything that David did was because of his desire to love and please God. desire to love Him and to serve others. We desire the same of out leaders.
Just as our heavenly Father leads by joining with us in our work, God calls each one of us to lead as a servant who comes alongside others in the tasks He has placed before us. It does not matter if you have an official leadership position or not. Great leaders are the ones who are following closely after God.
Being chosen can provide a sense of purpose.
In the Bible, we learn that because God has chosen us, we can live not just for ourselves, but for God and others as well. Being chosen by a child can extend that sense of purpose.
God wants us to choose, because we love him and want to obey him, to make our decisions within the overall blueprint of his will. It is the Holy Spirit who can guide our choices even as we have freedom to make them.
God created humanity in the image of God and called them to partner with him in expanding his creation. But partnership requires trust, so God gave humanity the freedom to make their own choices. Sadly, the first humans made the choice to trust their own wisdom over God's.

Good leaders are uplifting. They praise employees for a job well done, taking time to coach and train if there are lapses in performance. In good times and bad, good leaders bring out the best in their employees by encouraging them to be their very best.
