Can a 14 year old be in 9th grade?
In the United States, ninth grade is usually the first year in high school. In this system, ninth graders are also often referred to as freshmen. It can also be the last year of junior high school. The typical age for U.S. 9th grade students is 14 to 15 years.

Plenty of students in the U.S. are 15 years old in the 8th grade. There is no evidence of long term negative consequences for these students.
School leaving age
Children can leave school on the last Friday in June of the school year in which they reach 16 years of age. They must however do one of the following until they are 18: stay in full-time education, e.g. at a college. start an apprenticeship or traineeship.

In the U.S., you are only allowed into high school until you are 21, and once you're over that age, you will have to go to an adult high school. Many adults are unaware that the GED® test is not their only possibility of obtaining a high school diploma.
The seventh grade is the eighth school year, the second or third year of middle school, and the first year of junior high school. Students are around 12-13 years old in this stage of education.

If your teenager is repeatedly refusing to go to school, communicate with teachers or school counselors so they know why your child is struggling to get to class and can provide extra support. For example, school staff may wish to discuss setting up a 504 plan.
Consider ninth grade as the “capstone” year of middle school
Experiencing ninth grade as the culminating year of middle school, rather than the bottom rung of high school, can be a great way for students to cement fundamental skills and build the confidence to move on and have a successful high school experience.
Freshmen who earn a B average or better have an 80 percent chance of finishing high school with at least a 3.0 GPA. Freshmen with less than a C average are more likely to drop out than graduate. Course grades also are the best predictors of test score gains and college graduation.
The secondary school system in Germany
There is the lower phase (sekundarstufe I), which in most states takes place between ages 10 and 15/16 (or from grades 5 to 9/10). This is compulsory for all students. The upper phase (sekundarstufe II) continues until students are 18 and is optional.
Students attending middle school are around age 11 to 13.
Can you be 16 in 8th grade?
